OSCARS 2019
Psychology Of The 8 Best Pictures Nominees
And The Winner Is … ?

The Oscars 2019 are upon us; this coming Sunday, February 24th, at the Dolby Theater, in Hollywood, at 5 PM PST. Isn’t that well-known suspense-filled introduction to each category ringing through all of our heads? And the winner is ….?  Which of the 2019 Best Picture Nominees will it be?

I know I’ve been wondering, as I write psychological pieces about each of the 8 films nominated for Best Picture. I love to write about movies. Being a psychoanalyst, my mind starts working each time I watch a film. And, before I know it, I’m creating the same kind of understandings I might give to my patients.

All 8 2019 Best Picture nominees depict real human problems with startling accuracy. The early memories and unconscious struggles of the characters show us what we can’t so easily know about other people or ourselves. In each piece, I’ve tried to capture what I see. And, also what I know to be psychologically true.

I hope you enjoy my musings about A Star Is Born, Roma, Bohemian Rhapsody,The Green BookBlack Panther, BlackKklansman, The Favourite, and Vice.

If you do, write to me. I’d love to hear your thoughts @ sandracohenphd@gmail.com.
